Azulejos & Art of Golf

Inspired by one of the stops on the LIV Golf Tour, Andalusia, I began to delve deeper into the country’s history and art. Through my research, I discovered that azulejos—derived from the Arabic word meaning “little stone” or “polished stone”—are used to describe the beautifully intricate geometric tiles found throughout the region. In a blog titled The Geometric Soul of Andalusia, the author noted that Moorish artisans, working during the Islamic Golden Age, believed geometry could reveal a deeper truth—that the divine was present in structure and symmetry. I found this sentiment expressed very beautifully. With this in mind, I wanted to merge this geometric art form with the design brief presented in the Art of Golf challenge, celebrating and paying homage to the region’s vibrant cultural roots.
